PRIVACY POLICY

Who we are

Your OTS Account is the single identity you use across every Open Terrain Studios game, starting with Empires of the Fallen World. It is operated by Open Terrain Studios. This policy covers the account service at account.openterrain.studio — not gameplay data, which a game's own policy covers.

What we collect

• Email address — to sign you in (we email you a one-time link; there is no password) and to send essential account notices.
• Display name — optional, your cross-game handle.
• Your OTS account ID — a random identifier we generate.
• Steam link — if you connect Steam, your SteamID and public Steam profile (persona name, avatar). You can unlink at any time.
• Subscription & entitlement — which game tier you hold and its status. Card payments are handled entirely by our payments provider; we never see or store your card details.
• Security log — account events (sign-ins, links, changes) with a hashed (not raw) IP for abuse protection.

How we use it

Only to run your account: authenticate you, link Steam, grant the right game features for your subscription, keep the account secure, and meet legal obligations. We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising profiling.

Who we share it with

A small set of processors, only for the function named:

• Amazon Web Services (SES) — delivers your sign-in and account emails.
• Paddle — our Merchant of Record; processes payments and holds the billing relationship. Their privacy terms govern payment data.
• Steam (Valve) — only when you choose to link, to confirm your Steam identity.

When a game (e.g. Empires of the Fallen World) asks to sign you in, we share only the minimum it needs — your account ID and the entitlement you agreed to release on the consent screen.

Your rights & choices

• Access & export — download a copy of your account data anytime from Settings.
• Deletion — delete your account from settings. We erase your personal information (email, Steam link); to keep shared game worlds consistent, the account is anonymised rather than removed, and any entitlement history is kept without anything identifying you.
• Unlink Steam — at any time, from your account.

Security & retention

Traffic is encrypted in transit (TLS). We use passwordless sign-in, separate your contact details from the rest of your account, hash IPs in logs, and sign the tokens games rely on. We keep your data for as long as your account is active, then per the deletion rules above.
